Which Spanish is this?

This course is Spain Spanish (es-ES): vosotros, the theta sound in words like gracias and diez, and vocabulary you will hear in Madrid, Barcelona, or on Spanish media. It is not a Mexico-neutral mash-up. If you want Latin American Spanish, use the Mexico course — both are live, and you can switch.

Who it is for

Start here if you are heading to Spain, following Spanish series and football, or you simply want the European standard that textbooks still call “Spanish.” Complete beginners and false beginners who can read a menu but freeze when someone answers are both in the right place. The work is sentences you can say, not a 400-page grammar.

Each session is listen, repeat, recall. You hear a native line, shadow the whole sentence, then hide the Spanish and produce it from English (or your language) until it is automatic. Pronunciation

The sounds that surprise English speakers are the interdental c/z (think “thin”), a tapped or trilled r, and the fact that Spanish vowels stay pure — no English diphthong slide on e and o. Shadowing native audio is faster than reading a pronunciation chapter. Five to fifteen minutes of repeating full sentences will do more for your r and your rhythm than a week of isolated drills.
