Which Portuguese (Brazil) is this?

This live course is Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR): open vowels, the Brazilian r, você, and the vocabulary of Brazil — not European Portuguese from Lisbon. Portugal is on the roadmap; it is not this audio. If you searched “learn Portuguese free,” this is the variety most learners mean, and we label it clearly so you are not surprised.

Who it is for

People going to Brazil, talking with Brazilian family or colleagues, following Brazilian music and film, or starting a Romance language that is not Spanish. Spanish speakers should still treat this as a new language: the false friends and the sound system will punish coasting.

Pronunciation

Brazilian Portuguese nasal vowels, the different r’s (Rio vs São Paulo still differ, and the course uses clear standard Brazilian audio), and the melody of the sentence are why Portuguese is not “Spanish with different endings.” Shadowing is non-negotiable. Reading Portugal-flavoured textbooks while listening to Brazilian music is how people end up with an accent nobody has.
