Frequently asked questions
- Is HyperLingua free forever?
- Yes. The core practice — listening, shadowing, and active recall — stays free. You can create an account with no credit card. Optional Pro and Pro+ subscriptions unlock every language, full lessons, offline access, and higher custom-island limits. See the pricing page for the current comparison.
- How many languages can I learn?
- Sixteen courses are live today: Spanish (Spain and Mexico), Korean, Basque, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Bosnian, and English (US and UK). More than 40 languages are planned. Free accounts can study two learning languages; Pro and Pro+ include all current and future courses.
- What is shadowing?
- Shadowing is listening to native audio and repeating the full sentence aloud, matching cadence and intonation. HyperLingua builds this into daily practice. Five minutes is the minimum; 10–15 minutes is ideal.
- What is active recall?
- Active recall means producing the sentence from memory — usually by translating from your language — then checking the native version and repeating until you are fluent. It is retrieval practice, not re-reading, and it is the main drill on the practice screen.
- Do I have to study grammar?
- No grammar drills. Grammar is absorbed by seeing correct sentences in context and using them through massive input and output. You still encounter grammar; you do not start with worksheets.
- Is there a mobile app?
- Yes. HyperLingua is on the web, the App Store, and Google Play. The same method — listen, repeat, recall — runs on all three. On phones and tablets the site points you to the store listings first.
- What is the daily routine?
- About 30 minutes: mnemonic vocabulary (around 15 minutes), review sentences (5), listening as much as you can, shadowing (5–15), and a few new language-island sentences (about 5). Consistency beats marathon sessions.
- Who makes HyperLingua?
- HyperLingua is independently developed, owned, and operated by HyperLingua LLC (Sheridan, Wyoming, USA). Language consultant Mikel Telleria advises on content and educational guidance. The product is not owned by consultants.
